"FLIGHT atomisation DROPLETS"
(FAD)
APPLICATION
This programme is useful for calculation
of optimum sizes and shapes of atomising
chambers, of the pressure, composition
and temperatures of gas atmosphere, and
for operating parameters which will provide
good powder quality and reliable operation
of the system. It is applicable to the
following processes for the production
of metal powders, shot and granules:
(1) CENTRIFUGAL ATOMISATION
Include such processes like Rotating Electrode
Process (REP), Plasma Rotating Electrode
Process (PREP), spinning disc processes,
Spinning cup processes and Perforated
cup processes.
(2) GRAVITY SHOTTING
Include the traditional methods of lead
shot production, vibrating nozzle atomising
or shotting, perforated crucible or sieve
drop-towers.
(3) ULTRASONIC ATOMISATION
Atomisation by vibrating surface, whether
at sonic or ultrasonic frequencies.
(4) PRESSURE JET ATOMISATION
Calculation basis
The program calculate the trajectory of
freely flying droplets and their cooling
at the atmosphere. Thus it models the
aerodynamics and the heattransfer of the
droplets in flight using both standards
published scientific data and original
methods of the authors. The model takes
into account the dependence of the drag
coefficient on the Reynolds number, the
deformation of the droplets in flight,
local compression and heating of the gas,
non-equilibrium solidification of the
metal and their interactions.

Model Tests.
The results of calculations agreed to significant
experimental data obtained from the literature
and own researches of the authors. The
error of calculations does not exceed
on the average 5-10 %.
Practical verification.
The predictions of the programhave been
tested both using test equipment of Netramm
and full scale industrial enterprices.
